Mokmyeoksanbang 목멱산방

Who wants some bibimbap after hiking?

Mokmyeoksanbang is a hanok restaurant located under Namsan. I personally passed by there once and i didn’t even realize it was a restaurant as kids were playing badminton outside it. Mokmyeok was an ancient name of Namsan.

I like the way Korean always declare where their raw material comes from. In Mokmyeoksanbang, gochujang ( the sauce used to mix the rice and vegetables) is specially made from plum and organic red pepper flakes. They also explain most of their key raw materials source in details but i am not going to go into that. 🙂

Here’s the most important part of the post, FOOD!

For bibimbap, they have 3 choices, sanbang bibimbap ( without meat i supposed), bulgogi bibimbap and yukye bibimbap ( raw meat bibimbap) . Aside from that, they also offer quite a range of traditional tea .

Unlike usual Hanok restaurant ( maybe only for me, i think Hanok restaurant is kind of a high class, luxury restuarant) , the price is fairly affordable.

Do take note that this restaurant is self service  so you need to pay in advance when ordering your food , they will give you a electric bell(?) and it will vibrate once your dish is ready, you need to collect it yourself. Not to say that you should put your tray back on the shelf when you finish eating ( I like this practice !) .

Jeju food hunt – 기억나는 집

Literally means a place that you would remember.. When i think about this place, the only thing came into my mind is ABALONE!

As i said, i am not a seafood lover but if the seafood is fresh, abundant and yummy… why not?!

This place is located at Jeju and they only serve 2 dishes 해물탕(haemul tang : seafood soup) and 갈치조림 (kalchijorim : braised hairtail). I might not go there because the price is kinda pricy for me but that’s what a bowl of seafood ( i mean a full bowl of abalone) would cost. Imagine how delicious is it when you add on ramyeon on the soup base when it is full with the goodness of abalone, octopus, squid……. That’s even more killing me than the abalone!

My Food list! Grilled EEEEL!

In my list ! It’s in my list! 공평동꼼장어 (Gongpyeongdong Grilled Eel ? )  sells grilled eel, pork belly, chicken feets and anything you can grill.

It’s very popular and the pictures that i saw, it’s just irresistable! I like eel but it’s kinda expensive because of unagi ( Japanese eel) or i guess that’s the only kind of eel dish that i know.

There are some main meal you can get like kimchi sujaebi or kalguksu and the bento ( traditional Korean bento ) that i find it interesting..but probably would stick to kimchi sujaebi if i got a chance to visit! 🙂

Below are the outlet of this restaurant..but they are more or less at the same area. It opens at 430pm till 11pm and some website says open till midnight 4am. I am not sure which one is true but it definitely is fit in my dinner list!

My Food List – 주해수산 It’s time for some seafood!

This i guess is kinda popular among Koreans, not so much of a tourist thingy i guess ..partly could be because of the price.

주해수산 is located at Shin Chon, it is popular with it’s king crab ! what else can i say ?

This is in my list mostly because it makes the seafood easier for you to eat and it’s crab, not just normal crab but king crab!!

Omg! Looking at the photos just can’t stop drooling! The price is as expected expensive but i think it worth to try!

I know sometimes you need to have a video to make you drool more! ( LOL )!

Food List! Something not spicy !

For those who can’t eat spicy food, here’s the savior!

Honestly, i love spicy food but there are times that you don’t feel like eating them and want something mild. 🙂

At then, this is what you can get ! 돼지국밥 (dwijigukbap) ! Pork soup with rice. This is seriously famous in Busan but you can find some good 돼지국밥 in Seoul too like in 돈수백 (Donsoopaek) ! It’s a franchise od pork soup that you can easily find it . It has outlet in Hongdae, Seoul City hall, Gangnam and Seoul station. I think i walked pass the one at Hongdae before. You can visit their website to find the nearest outlet and the update of menu ( although for me, classic is always the best !)

Website : http://www.donsoobaek.com/main/main.php

What’s the best thing about this is it opens 24 hours! It’s a bonus for tourist like us ( time is really precious!)

Some may find Dwijigukbap is too mild or even tasteless but for people like me ( who loves to eat spicy and with lots of spice and seasoning -,- let’s just call it MSG LOL), i like the mild taste yet rich taste of the pork soup compliment with crispy kaktugi (깍도기) a side dish and the soft and tender pork !

Where to go if you don’t have much time in Seoul? Gwangjang Market!

Gwangjang market is also in my to-eat-list!

For those who don’t have much time (probably just a short business trip people) and if you really want to experience Korea, i would recommend Gwangjang Market! Gwangjang Market is one of the traditional market, you can eat all the authetic Korean street food there and they also a collection of fabrics on second floor!

If you ( i am actually also reminding myself 🙂 ) go Gwangjang Market, you have to eat Mayak Kimbap and Bindaetuk ( Mung Bean Pancake)!!!

One good thing about Gwangjang Market is that it opens at about around 10am and close at about 9 pm! This is really good for those that have really short time in Seoul ( coz i myself really understand you don’t have much time if it’s a business trip, you probably don’t even have a 1 day free time to walk around)
